JARUS CAREER CLUB 1 (JCC 1) was created in May 1 2016 on WhatsApp to mark May Day and we had Jarus giving tips about how to navigate the different industries in Nigeria, the group has been active ever since providing the foundation for other groups.

JCC 1 is represented by:

JARUS CAREER CLUB 3 (JCC 3) was created in May 29, 2016 on WhatsApp to mark Democracy Day and we had Jarus giving tips about how to navigate the different industries in Nigeria, the group has been dynamic and lively, showing a lot of passion and interest in JarusHub activities including this debate.

JARUSHUB AND HOTPROFORUM.COM (HPF) DEBATE RULES

1.) The language for this debate is standard United Kingdom or American English. Debaters are to stick to one of these and not switch unnecessarily between the 2.

2.) All debaters and by extension participants in this debate must show decorum and respect for each other, the judges, organizers and the general public. We have zero tolerance for vulgar language, profanity or obscenity.

3.) The lead debater for each group is to present first and his/her presentation should not exceed 1,000 words.

4.) The supporting debater presents next and his/her presentation should not exceed 700 words.

5.) Word count should be strictly followed, use http://www.wordcounttool.com/ to check if in doubt.

6.) All materials used should be properly referenced at the end of each presentation.

7.) All presentations must be submitted within the stipulated period.

8.) Always wait for the Moderator of the debate to give you the instruction before you make your presentation.

9.) Reserve debaters are allowed to make presentations during the questioning and rebuttal stage of the debate.

10.) Debaters are to answer questions put to them by judges as best they can within the allotted time.

11.) We do not want plagiarism all sources for quotes, facts and figures should be properly identified.

12.) Our readers are not allowed to post while the debate is going on but will be free to post on the debate chat thread that will be opened just before the debate starts.

13.) The poll for deciding the winner of each debate will be opened after the debate moderator declares the debate formally closed. Voting will end after 24 hours and the team with highest number of votes at the close of poll wins the debate. Where there is a tie, the judges will decide the winner by vote if they do not come to agreement among them.

14.) Debating teams are free to canvass for votes from within and outside HPF but not directly on the debate thread.

15.) Where one of the debaters is unavailable, the team’s reserve debater may take their place.

3.41-4.25: Opening rebuttal stage; both sides ask questions and counter each other

4.26-5’ O’Clock Hour: Judges make comments and ask questions

5’ O’Clock Hour: Closing remarks and opening of voting poll for 24 hours to decide winner

I am Jarus, Chief Resource Officer at JarusHub and Chairman of this debate.

I welcome you all to the 2nd semi-final of the online debate competition between two sub-groups of our Career Club.

The aim of this exercise is to improve the research and written presentation skills of our mentees, who are final year students, recent graduates and early career professionals.

We hope you will all learn and have fun here.

I also want to thank our judges, who are on standby to assess the debate.
